The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using marijuana. There are no dues or fees for membership. We are self-supporting through our own contributions. MA is not affiliated with any religious or secular institution or organization and has no opinion on any outside controversies or causes. Our primary purpose is to stay free of marijuana and to help the marijuana addict who still suffers achieve the same freedom. We can do this by practicing our suggested twelve steps of recovery and by being guided as a group by our twelve traditions. Marijuana Anonymous uses the basic 12 Steps of Recovery founded by Alcoholics Anonymous, because it has been proven that the 12 Step Recovery program works! District 11's Relation to MA World Services The Fellowship of Marijuana Anonymous (MA) is served by the non-profit corporation called Marijuana Anonymous World Services (MAWS). MAWS' purpose is to provide services necessary for the fellowship of MA to function. Similarly, District 11 strives to serve the MA meetings in the Portland Metropolitan area. District 11 is one of twelve MA Districts that have chosen to support the broader services offered by MAWS. There are numerous individual meetings all over the world, as well as individuals, that may at any time make use of the services offered by MAWS. Follow this link for more information about District 11. To simplify maintainence of this site we've opted to link to MAWS resources where available rather than duplicate those resources on this site. The MAWS site can be found at www.marijuana-anonymous.org. |
